The network’s Sepolia testnet has successfully updated, mimicking the expected hard split as Ethereum’s Shanghai upgrade approaches next month.

The Ethereum blockchain’s Sepolia testnet has successfully upgraded to mimic the imminent Shanghai hard split, which is slated to occur on mainnet in March.

On February 28, the “Shapella” update was successfully launched on the testnet, combining the names of the future Shanghai and Capella hard forks.

Shanghai is the name of the fork on the execution layer client side, while Capella is the name of the upgrade on the consensus layer client side. One significant modification allows validators to withdraw their staked Ether (stETH) from the Beacon Chain and return it to the execution layer.

To validate on the Ethereum blockchain, validators required to stake 32 Ether. Users may now withdraw prizes in excess of 32 ETH and continue validating, whilst those who want to totally withdraw can take all 32 ETH plus rewards and stop verifying.

Before the Shanghai split goes live on the mainnet, the update will be released on the Ethereum Goerli testnet, which is anticipated to begin in March.
